Villa Anatoli stands alone on its hilltop above Poros, on Lefkada's peaceful south-east side. The pebble beach and tavernas of Mikros Gialos bay are a short drive below; Sivota's famous harbour-front fish restaurants are 10 minutes away; and Vasiliki, Nidri and the west-coast beaches all make easy outings.

• A car is essential up here — that's the price of the privacy and the views.
• The access road from Poros is unpaved in parts: fine for a normal car driven slowly, ideally a higher-clearance car or small SUV.
• The hilltop setting means wildlife for neighbours — eagles and hawks overhead, tortoises in the garden.
